I just spent a perfectly sunny Vancouver morning moped up in my make-shift bedroom finishing the last case of Gyakuten Kenji. AE merchandise whut?! I don't know what you're talking about.
This is the spoiler-free version:
You guys when the English version comes out we'll all need to fantard together, okay? OKAY? Pinky-swear! There are so many quotes in there that I need the canon English translations right now! So muchmen sex potential!
And here's the version with spoilers:
Eureka! This game has answered the age old question. Edgeworth is a ROBOT.
All five cases, with the exception of the case 4, which is a flashback, happened in the span of 3 days. One after another with really packed timing. So um, Edgeworth obviously doesn't have time to sleep between cases and I've never seen him eaten anything either... O_o;; He's either an anorexic workoholic or he's a rooooooooooooobot. A very very dorky fanboy robot that inspires frothing desire in the female (and some male) masses.
Anyway, third case was really awesome for me for various reasons. Ema appeared in a her new rad pink hat though she didn't do much, Oldbag was wearing Pink Badger costumes, Edgeworth was thoroughly traumatized and Mikumo demoed her awesome crime scene reconstruction gadget. Oh, and detective Rou. <3<3<3 I mean, I didn't care much for him in the 3rd case because he didn't really do much besides getting in my way, but oh man, the last case changed my opinion, majorly. It's like that pivot point back in GS1-4 for me when I decided Edgeworth is the most tsundere of all the tsunderes (including all the female moe-geared characters) and I love him for it. Rou redeemed himself in the last case, especially during that epic moment with his secretary Sheena.
As for the actual case itself, um, PROTO BLUE BADGER IS FRIGGIN' SCARY. I've never been this creeped out in Ace Attorney. Also, Edgeworth gets tied up so many times in this game that I had to wonder if bondage is one of Shu Takumi's kinks. XD;;
Case four is a flashback case, it was before Bratworth's first trial with Mia in GS3-4. All the cameos in there are EPIC. Manfred von Karma + Young!Franziska + Young!Mikumo + THE JUDGE. Also, I've realized that in order to quality as the Ace Attorney patented underage assistant, your parents had to be either missing or dead. No exceptions. Young!Mikumo seriously beats Pearls in adorableness, especailly when she calls Gumshoe "Noko-chan". I also ship Edgeworth/Mikumo/Gumshoe in a non-sexual, master and loyal pets sort of way. I was d'aaaaaaaw-ing everywhere when Gumshoe and Mikumo shared the courthouse special dorayaki. Young!Franziska's got longer hair and a riding crop for her whip, and she's sensitive about her height. Probably the most obnoxious bossy kid around, at age thirteen, she's already going around whipping Edgeworth and Gumshoe.
And she also said this to Edgeworth, "Since you are Papa's pupil, be careful not to walk onto the path of a geek (this is me trying to make the English work. Literally she said not to indulge in hobbies that's not productive [生產性のないシュミ])" to which Edgeworth replied, in his head, "I don't want to hear that from a person who whips people for a hobby." ...Then years later Edgeworth became a Steel Samurai fanboy. Ahaha, you should listen to your older sister!
The fourth case basically builds a lot of the back story for the super epic final case, where Edgeworth and co. fought against a global smuggling, counterfeiting organization. The setting was really interesting, in a building that is perfectly symmetrical and shared by two embassies of countries that used to be one. Also, PHOENIX DRIVE IS CANON?! When Pink Princess took off her face mask and out comes Oldbag, I was simultaneously =D-ing and DX-ing at the same time.
Larry also appears in the fifth case, as goofy as ever. <3 Where's Phoenix when you need him? C'mon, favourite kid trio please?
[***MAJOR PLOT SPOILER***]I was so surprised when I realized that Sheena = Kazura. I can't believe I've never doubted her before, since how she's the only female character that's not part of the "Edgeworth team". I really should have known but god was I shocked when the epic XD face appeared on her sprite.[***END SPOILER***] That last case was loooooong. I had thought that I was done so many times and then the game just shoved a to be continued... in my face.
GK seems to be easier than GS4... probably because LOGIC mode is so much easier to manage than the perceive system. I never knew where to check, especially not armpits!! But seeing how I was able to finish the game in Japanese and only game over-ed twice (both in the last case), it's really not that bad. =D
Anyway, that's GK. I'll now be waiting for the English release so I can properly build my headcanon. As hard as the localization team might try, I'm sure there will be some small discrepancies between the two version. It's just the language and cultural barriers that's making it difficult... and I'm really interested on how they're going to work with all the puns.
THIS YEAR WINTER IS GOING TO BE AWESOME WITH GK AND PROFESSOR LAYTON COMING OUT!!!
